Reflection 06 · Action & Impact
Humble action speaks.
The story
Before the Passover, Jesus gets up from the meal, wraps a towel around Himself, and washes His disciples’ feet. Peter objects, but Jesus explains that receiving His care matters. Afterward, Jesus reminds them that He is their Lord and Teacher. He has given them an example to follow: they are to serve one another as He has served them.
Why it matters
In a world of sandals and dusty roads, washing feet met a real and ordinary need. It was lowly work associated with servants. Jesus takes that work into His own hands. His authority does not keep Him at a distance from the people He loves.
His leadership is directed toward salvation and renewed life, rather than earthly control or recognition. We follow His example when humility becomes useful action, including work that others overlook or judge. Service is not a performance of being humble. It is attention to another person’s need, followed by a willing response.
Try this week
- What useful task have you avoided because it feels beneath your position?
- Who needs practical care from you, rather than advice or direction?
- What humble action will you take this week, even if no one notices?
I will help ______ by doing ______ before ______, without expecting recognition.
