If nobody noticed, would you still do it?
Look at what drives your effort.
The question
If nobody noticed, would you still do it?
Why this question
Recognition can encourage us. Wanting our contribution to be seen is understandable. The question is how much control that recognition has over what we choose to do.
Our foundation in Jesus Christ gives us a place to examine our motives without making applause the measure of our worth.
The evidence
Choose one recent responsibility or decision. Look at what actually happened.
- Your effort. Did your preparation change depending on who would see it?
- Your reaction. When credit went elsewhere, what did you do next?
- Your contribution. What useful work did you follow through on without being asked?
- Your initiative. Have you shared your work clearly and asked for an opportunity, or waited for someone to notice?
Consider the context, too. Asking for fair credit, pay, or responsibility can be appropriate. Taking initiative and serving others can belong in the same decision.
Your answer
What would you keep doing because it matters, and what would you change about how you seek recognition or opportunity?
I will keep ______ because ______. I will take initiative by ______.
Built on Him. Built to become.
